About

Hi, I’m Rick Crawford a.k.a. Ricky Bruce. Welcome to my author homepage. I write children’s chapter books for ages 7-12. This blog, A Writer’s Diary, is my opportunity to share my work with you and to share my writing experience.

Ever since I started reading books, I have enjoyed working with words. The stories were always floating around in my head trying to get out on paper. It was as if the ideas of poets and story tellers had been poured into me, and I finally became ready to give back what I was given.

Great! What do I win? Kidding. I will look at the rules. Did the Olympics inspire you to have a contest?

Haha, I am actually watching the Olympics ceremony as I type this. I actually was nominated by someone for this award, and as apart of it, you take your turn of nominating other bloggers for the award, to share the award with others who are deserving!

Honestly, I thank God for people like you. My own writing tends to flutter like a moth around the darker, more macabre flames of existence. Just reading about someone with what seems to be a genuinely positive, altruistic predilection to help the innocents of this world, such as children, truly helps buoy up my spirit. Thank you for all you do.

I’ve been toying with the idea of writing but, with the exception of an unfinished children’s story (written for the purpose of having students make up their own ending), I haven’t made any progress. Perhaps if I keep at it, my fragile roots will one day blossom! (Or I could content myself with sharing others’ literary gems with the world.) Thank you for liking my blog.

One thing that helped me plot and take a deeper look at my story was PowerPoint. Sorting my story out on slides helped me clarify ideas and find holes to fill. I know some people put their work on a wall and do a type of flow chart. Try something like that.

It came out pretty well. I needed something original on my About page. I got it done on Fiverr. I think it’s called a white board video. The vendor is uniquefivex.

Artwork looks great. I have a story that is just finished for which I need some very simple artwork. This story is a chldren’s book called Dot and Scribble Fall into Adventure. The book that I’m working on is for a young adult audience. I’m not finished with that story yet though.

I just read your post, “Why Do Kids Need Books?” and I was uplifted. Your points are so true. As a librarian, mother, and grandmother who is devoted to connecting kids with books, I am encouraged by your words. Thank you for the helpful ideas you gave me to help my own fledgling picture book along, and for again liking my blog.
